The Association would also like to thank the McKenzie Masters for its generous donation toward river enhancement projects in memory of two of its founding members, Wendell Kaufman and Walter Seput. Wendell was raised in Eugene and, early in his life, worked as a guide on the McKenzie before going into the automobile business. He was an ardent fly-fisherman who loved the McKenzie. He will be remembered by his friends as a true sportsman and gentleman. Walter, a native Californian who for more than 40 years owned Sam's Grill, a landmark in San Francisco's financial district, spent much of his summers in central Oregon. He enjoyed bird hunting and fly-fishing, and he will be remembered as a gracious and generous man, and a master story-teller.
